Chef Jenn Louis brought big attention to the Portland, Oregon, restaurant scene when she opened Lincoln (3808 N Williams Ave.; 503-288-6200; lincolnpdx.com) in 2008. There, local ingredients from the Pacific Northwest anchor sophisticated, unfussy dishes. Louis subsequently opened Sunshine Tavern (3111 SE Division St.; 503-688-1750; sunshinepdx.com) in 2011. When she finds a few minutes away from her two restaurants, she heads to Taqueria Portland (7007 N Fessenden St.; 503-285-0304), which is tucked away in North Portland. “It is one of my all-time favorites,” she says. “Specifically, I love the barbacoa soup. The lamb is tender and so flavorful, swimming in a broth of chiles and served with soft, fresh tortillas and garnishes of radish, cilantro and onion.” For dessert, she swoons for the Chocolate Gooey Brownie Ice Cream at artisanal ice cream shop Salt and Straw. “Their house-made brownies are made with marshmallow fluff folded in to make them extra gooey,” she says.
