Highly subjective takes on life's most interesting experiences.

What’s the most interesting tradition you’ve ever experienced?

In 2017 I participated in a 3-week hip hop ambassadorship with the Next Level program in the city of Meknes, Morocco. During my time there, my team of artists were encouraged to share space with local participants and their families. I had the pleasure of experiencing the tradition of couscous, a family-oriented hand-shared goat dish covered in vegetables and served with milk, after a fair share of mint tea. This dish is widely served every Friday, and my new friends couldn’t wait for me to experience this traditional cuisine. I was taught to eat with my right hand, cupping the hot couscous and rolling it around in my palm to create a mouth-sized ball. I did the best I could, but eventually settled on a spoon.

What’s your most treasured personal ritual?

My most treasured personal ritual is creative meditation. Sometimes this comes in the form of digesting and writing music, while other times it may be sculpting with my hands and listening to my thoughts, visions, and the language of my spirit.
