The mother of two likes to take it easy when traveling with her family.

Zooey Deschanel is always on the go so when it comes time to head off on a far-flung destination all she wants to do is soak up the local culture, and relax.

The former New Girl star, singer, and mother shared what she considers a dream vacation while promoting her newest adventure, the "Purpose Project"—an initiative that aims to engage people in conversation about their purposeful travel. The project, a partnership with Capital One, took Deschanel to Napa, California where she got a first-hand look at sustainable gardening and how it impacts local farmers.

When it comes to personal travel, Deschanel sticks to a similar mantra: engaging with the local community to learn about different cultures, while also enjoying the beauty of her surroundings.

"I’ve been traveling my whole life," Deschanel said. "I think it’s important for people to see the world from other perspectives. It allows you to have more gratitude for what you have." And that's why she makes a point to travel with her family.

Deschanel spent last summer traveling through Italy and Greece with her husband and two children, 1-year-old Charlie, and 3-year-old Elsie. She explained that not only was the experience a great bonding opportunity for her family, but it also introduced her kids to new foods, experiences, and people.

Deschanel also noted that her vacations have changed a bit since having kids. "You can't place hop as well," she explained, noting that prior to kids, she liked to bounce around from place to place. "It's better to go to one place and settle there."

As for next trips, Deschanel doesn't have anything on the books just yet. But one thing she made clear is that she loves traveling with her family and can't wait to head out on another excursion.
