Quitting your job and heading to an exotic destination was, for a long time, what every traveler at heart dreamed of doing. Now, with remote work at an all-time high, more and more countries are introducing short- and long-term visas designed to attract professionals able to work from anywhere. Many Caribbean islands, such as Bermuda, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, and Aruba, are allowing travelers to extend their stays through a variety of programs and visas. And some of these permits are free and don't require filling out any paperwork.
Not a beach person? It’s not just the picture-perfect beach destinations offering programs of this nature. Iceland is now welcoming remote foreign workers for up to six months, and there are plenty of stunning spots in the Land of Fire and Ice where you can take Zoom calls. And for the ultimate splurge-worthy work-from-abroad experience, head to Dubai, where for a year you will have access to the same benefits residents do.
Read on for a list of countries that would love to welcome you for an extended work-from-abroad stay.

Bermuda
The recently launched Work from Bermuda program allows you to work from the dreamy Caribbean island for up to a year. The application process is easy, with no proof of income necessary, and processing takes only five days. Located in Tucker's Town and spanning 240 acres, the Rosewood Bermuda, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property, welcomes everyone looking to make Bermuda their remote office destination. The property offers a "Workcation" package that includes special rates on rooms and suites, roundtrip airport transfers, and spa and golf services.

Estonia
Last year, Estonia launched its first Digital Nomad Visa aimed at freelance workers and foreign company employees. Requirements include earning at least €3,504 (or $4,161) per month during the six months prior to your application. One of the country's most stunning properties is the 15th-century Padaste Manor, located along the beautiful Baltic coastline. Accommodation options include rooms, suites, and a private three-bedroom farmhouse that boasts a garden and a sauna with gorgeous sea views.

Barbados
The Barbados Welcome Stamp allows you to work remotely from the gorgeous island while enjoying its white sand beaches and turquoise waters during your lunch break. There is a $2,000 visa fee and a minimum salary requirement of $50,000 per year to be eligible for the program. Colony Club, part of Elegant Hotels, which operates four properties in Barbados, offers remote workers monthly rates starting at $8,000 based on double occupancy. The package also includes complimentary daily breakfast and WiFi, as well as daily water sports, such as kayaking, snorkeling, and paddleboarding—the perfect way to relax after a day in front of the computer.

Iceland
Now is your chance to explore the divine beauty of Iceland's landscapes without missing a day of work. The country issues digital nomad visas to foreign workers for six months. To be eligible, you have to show proof of employment (freelancers can apply, too) and have a minimum monthly income of 1,000,000 ISK (or about $7,800). In Reykjavik, boutique hotels such as Kvosin Hotel offer elegantly furnished rooms and suites and complimentary high-speed internet, ideal for remote workers. While staying in Iceland, elevate your weekend trips by staying at a glass lodge set in the middle of the Icelandic countryside to scout aurora borealis.

Croatia
What better way to change up the scenery than heading to sunny Croatia for a few months of work and adventure? Apply for a temporary residence permit that allows you to stay in the country for up to 12 months. Some of the requirements include proof of funds based on your previous year's salary, valid health insurance for the entire length of your stay, and proof of accommodation. Speaking of accommodation, the luxury Villa Dubrovnik, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property, located on the beautiful Dalmatian coast would make the ideal base for your Adriatic workation. Soak up the panoramic views from your private balcony while staying in the Duke's Suite, or splurge on a private villa with a garden and an outdoor jacuzzi.

Mexico
Mexico offers two types of permits for those who wish to soak up the sun while working remotely. You can either enter the country on a regular six-month tourist visa or apply for a Temporary Resident Visa valid for up to four years (with the option to extend for three more years). Requirements include proof of funds—which is either a bank balance of at least $27,000 or a monthly income of over $1,620. For a long-term home-away-from-home experience on Mexico's West Coast, consider Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property set on the scenic Baja California Peninsula. The resort's accommodation options include luxury oceanfront villas and haciendas, perfect for families, and suites and casitas for individual travelers and couples. Travelers booking for at least three weeks enjoy long-term rates and luxury amenities such as daily breakfast served in your villa, private chef services, airport transfers, and kitchen pre-stocking services.

Antigua and Barbuda
Apply for a nomad residence permit to make Antigua and Barbuda your Caribbean office destination for the foreseeable future. The two-year visa program is issued to workers who make $50,000 or more a year and have a health insurance plan. The beachfront Carlisle Bay hotel in St. Mary's, Antigua, has launched a special package intended for remote workers, dubbed Send a Wave from Work. It includes two complimentary nights for every 14 nights booked, a $200 resort credit, complimentary laundry service for a week, and a designated workspace stocked with office supplies and complimentary WiFi.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Jet off to Dubai for a year of work and play in the City of Gold. The city’s remote working program not only allows you to stay in the United Arab Emirates legally, but it also gives you and your family access to all standards services that Dubai residents benefit from, such as banking facilities, schooling, and a resident ID card. The visa costs $287, and you must earn a minimum of $5,000 per month to be eligible. Needless to say, you won't have to search long to find a five-star property ready to accommodate your every need. Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, for example, operates two properties in Dubai and offers multiple extended stay packages.

Cayman Islands
If you make at least $100,000 a year (for families, this number is $150,000) and you can provide a notarized bank letter, you can soon take your Zoom calls from a shaded chaise lounge on a Cayman Islands beach. The islands’ Global Citizen Certificate is issued for two years, which will give you plenty of time to explore the world-famous beaches, rare wildlife, and lush flora of the British territory. Currently, a mandatory 14-day quarantine is required upon entering the Cayman Islands. The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property overlooking the famous Seven Mile Beach, attracts visitors looking for an idyllic place to work from with its Long Term Stay package.

Aruba
Imagine hitting send on that last work email for the day and immediately jumping in the warm turquoise waters of the Caribbean. Well, Aruba is making it really simple to pack your bags and make this dream a reality. The island's One Happy Workation program lets all U.S. nationals with a valid passport stay in the country for 90 days, no visa required, and no paperwork to fill out. All you have to do is book your stay and plane ticket, and you are all set. Set your sights on sunny Palm Beach, where the Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort, Spa & Casino, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property, offers spacious suites with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean. You will also receive a $50 daily food and beverage credit.

Jamaica
If you'd like to stay in Jamaica for more than 30 days, you can apply for a six-month extension to your tourist visa. Travelers who book 30 nights or more at GoldenEye resort in the quiet fishing village of Oracabessa will benefit from a long-term traveler. The property's most notable feature is its beautiful oceanfront location offering lush tropical gardens and secluded beaches. The 52-acre estate encompasses 45 stand-alone villas, cottages, and beach huts. For an extra dose of inspiration, you can also book Sir Ian Fleming's original five-bedroom home, where he penned the James Bond novels. Daily breakfast and unlimited laundry are included in your extended stay.
