It’s no surprise that booking overwater accommodations in the Maldives can be hard to, well, book. The crystal-blue waters the area is known for are full of hotel options and there’s soon to be another for those looking to snooze above the waves.
The Waldorf Astoria has announced that its new location will be opening in the Maldives on July 1, 2019. The property, which will officially be known as the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, will boast a number of accommodation types: 39 beach-front rooms, 24 reef view rooms, and 56 overwater villas. For a truly luxe stay, you can rent the Ithaafushi Private Island, which spans 32,000 square feet over two villas—it also has five swimming pools, a cinema, its own team of dedicated chefs, and an overwater spa. If you’re looking for something slightly smaller, check out the Stella Maris Ocean Villas, which can be accessed via traditional dhoni boat.
No matter which room you find yourself in, all guests are invited to enjoy the Waldorf Astoria Young Discovery Park, a waterpark with a lagoon pool that’s great for families. Let’s stop there for a minute, too: It’s not often you would be able to get your overwater bungalow and have a space for the kids to enjoy, too. This combination of amenities is a nice taste of both worlds that isn’t often offered by other properties.
Another highlight: This property has a spa buggy, which will pick you up from your villa and transport you to the spa where you can enjoy all of the wonderful treatments you’d expect from a luxury hotel (facials with actual 24-karat gold, massages underneath the stars; you get the idea).
The new property will be located a quick 30-minute trip from the Malé International Airport. The best part? You’ll be whisked away from the baggage claim in one of the Waldorf Astoria’s four yachts. For more information about the new Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, head to the property website.
