United Airlines has announced that it will be unveiling new, "Star Wars" themed livery on one of its aircraft beginning this fall in honor of the new film, "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," according to SF Gate.
Movie themed planes have become quite popular in recent years for both movie studios to promote new films and airlines to join in on the same fandoms as their customers. Earlier this year, Alaska Airlines launches a special, "Captain Marvel" themed plane. Similarly, China Eastern Airlines unveiled a "Toy Story" plane back in 2018.
The new livery on the United Boeing 737-800 features a black fuselage with blue and red lightsabers on the tail, as well as blue and orange details on the wings. Graphic intergalactic ships from the films are also featured on the body of the plane.
“At United, our mission is to connect people and unite the world, which is exactly what the Star Wars franchise has epically done for more than four decades,” said the airline in a statement. “For many of our customers, Star Wars was ceremonially introduced to them as a child, with families gathering to watch together and ultimately passing on their love for these films to new generations.”
According to SF Gate, the "Star Wars" themed plane will be exploring the “domestic galaxy” and will not be assigned to a specific route, so there’s a chance it could pop up on any U.S. flight.
Hopefully, every in-flight announcement will include, “May the force be with you.”
In addition to the exciting new paint job, customers who retweet the official United Airlines announcement (seen above) will get the chance to win two tickets to the premiere of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker."
You may not be able to actually fly to a galaxy far, far away, but this plane might be the next best thing.
