The Shangri-La Hotel, Paris opened in 2010 in scientist Prince Roland Bonaparte’s former palace (built in 1896 in the 16th Arrondissement, near the Seine), but only in the last year did the property unveil its absolutely gorgeous pool, which is housed in what used to be the residence’s stables. The 49-by-20-foot sanctuary, designed by the property’s longtime collaborator Pierre-Yves Rochon, has a south-facing position and high ceilings that allow the pool to be soaked in daylight. As a nod to Bonaparte’s passion for botany, flora and water motifs abound, while the trompe l’oeil sky on the ceiling adds another natural touch. And being that this is Shangri-La and all, there are thoughtful Asian-inspired touches—like the pool’s Oriental-carpet mosaic tiling. Rooms start at $1,015; 10 Av. d’Iéna; 33-1/53-67-19-98; shangri-la.com.
