Stay: The Avalon Palm Springs

Formerly the Viceroy, The Avalon reopened under new management last year. Located adjacent to downtown Palm Springs, the Kelly Wearstler–designed property is still a breezy oasis of calm, though the service is much improved. The hotel is a deviation from Wearstler’s trademark maximalism, favoring manicured landscaping and cheery white and yellow decor instead. We suggest booking one of the thirteen villas, each of which comes with its own dedicated site manager, gas-burning fireplace, wet bar, and private backyard. The hotel’s onsite Estrella Spa and wellness-inspired Chi Chi Restaurant make for the ultimate exercise in serenity, even during high season. Rooms from $250, villas from $600; 415 S. Belardo Rd.; 760-320-4117; avalonpalmsprings.com
