Where to Travel Based on Your Zodiac Sign
An astrological guide to booking a vacation that’s written in the stars.

Of all the factors that go into planning your well-deserved time off, the astrological map probably isn’t high on your list. But there’s reason enough to look to the heavens when choosing your next vacation destination. “Some places just make you feel good on a basic, personal level,” says Dara Dubinet, an astro-geographer who helps clients chart their travels based on the alignment of the planets on the day they were born. “But astro-geography isn’t limiting. It doesn’t mean you can’t go everywhere. It’s just about learning what energy is in a given destination and helping you harness it for your own nourishment. If you’re looking for love, you can go to a Venus line; if you want to write a book, you can go to a Mercury line. They’re all unique to the time of your birth.”
Of course, not everyone knows the exact details of their origin stories. Thankfully, you can look to your sun sign, traditionally the most all-encompassing of the bunch, to give you a general idea of which destinations will make you feel most at home. Here, Dubinet shares her insights on where to travel based on your Zodiac sign.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)
There’s a reason why more successful CEOS identify as Capricorns than any other star sign. Ruled by Saturn, work-hard, play-hard Capricorns are determined and ambitious and tend to be concerned with rules, institutions, and the established order of things. But they also know how to party like a rock star and have a keen interest in indulgent luxury and classic elegance.
Where to Go: The last thing a Capricorn wants to do to unwind is to backpack through the wilderness. Classic old-money destinations like Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, or It-places like St. Barth’s or Gstaad attract the kind of people that will inspire and challenge them. “They thrive among those of social standing,” says Dubinet.

Aquarius (January 20-February 19)
Open-minded Aquarians are on the other end of the spectrum from Capricorns. They champion anything that stands to change the world—think new technology, socially conscious policies, eco-friendly practices—and don’t particularly value the status quo. “Aquarians are true humanitarians,” says Dubinet of the air sign ruled by brainy Uranus. “They want to soak up the collective unconscious wherever they are.”
Where to Go: Channel an Aquarian’s love for the avant-garde and outside-the-box thinking in progressive places like Berlin or Copenhagen, which have a pioneering spirit and long history of bucking societal norms in art, design, and architecture.

Pisces (February 20-March 20)
“This is the most spiritual sign of the Zodiac,” says Dubinet of the water sign ruled by Neptune. Often accused of having their heads in the clouds, spacey Pisces are dreamers who believe in magic and seek out places that operate on a higher spiritual plane. Their generally laid-back demeanor means they can go with the flow anywhere so long as there’s a path to enlightenment for them.
Where to Go: Coastal areas with rich traditions of folklore pair well with Pisces’ love of fantasy and mysticism—think the Scottish Highlands, with their fairy legends; Iceland, with its otherworldly geography and Viking past; or Greece, in all its Olympian glory. Pisces also enjoy places known for their good vibes. Consider Sedona, Arizona’s red-rock vortexes, ancient energy centers that are believed to offer transcendent experiences.

Aries (March 21-April 19)
Ruled by fiery Mars, Aries are energetic and adventurous travelers who don’t like to follow the group—or an itinerary. “They are like the warriors of the Zodiac,” says Dubinet. “They prefer trips where you can just get up and go.” Their decisiveness makes them good travel companions for the irresolute, and their spontaneity and distaste for deliberation means you’ll spend less time making plans and more doing.
Where to Go: Always up for a challenge, adrenaline-seeking Aries live in the moment and feel their best when they’re accomplishing daring feats or bold athleticism—think whitewater rafting, mountain climbing, or extreme camping. Short of trekking the Himalayas, multi-activity destinations like Costa Rica, Patagonia, and Alaska will satisfy their need for speed.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Earthy? Yes. Granola? Not a chance. The way to any Taurian’s heart is through their senses: that means plying them with earthly pleasures like good food and drink, beautiful views, and fine company with which to enjoy it. But unlike fellow good-life-lover Leos, practical Taurus craves security and stability. “They’re not flashy or extravagant,” says Dubinet. “Their ties to nature keep them grounded.”
Where to Go: Dubinet suggests choosing a destination that has a dose of Old World charm to satisfy their sense of nostalgia and luxury: Florence, with its long history of art and culture; Paris, arguably the romance capital of the world; and Napa, with its terroir-based food and wine scene.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)
Geminis are notoriously hard to pin down—blame their quick-changing nature (they’re ruled by Mercury, after all), insatiable curiosity, and general unpredictability. But these social butterflies aren’t completely flighty. Though they’re graced with the gift of gab, they require quiet time to keep them from becoming overwhelmed by their mercurial needs.
Where to Go: “Geminis usually stick to local travel—quick trips that keep their always going minds energized,” says Dubinet. “And it’s an air sign so they tend to like being higher up where they can see everything that’s available to them.” A luxury penthouse in a big city like New York or Hong Kong balances just the right amount of buzz and calm.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
The homebodies of the Zodiac, sensitive Cancers are more than happy to sit out a trip, preferring to do their sightseeing via Netflix or a good book. Coax these emotional crabs out of their shells with a seaside destination that appeals as much to the water sign’s relaxed lifestyle as their inner sense of nostalgia. Then make it feel like home with comforting totems like candles and slippers.
Where to Go: According to Dubinet, Cancers feel most at home near bodies of water, and impersonal hotels aren’t really their thing. Opt for a cozy bed and breakfast or Airbnb near the sea, whether that’s a fishing lodge in the Carolinas, a beachfront apartment in Sardinia, or an overwater bungalow in the Maldives.

Leo (July 23-August 22)
Outgoing Leos are known for being the life of the party, flashy and fun and always up for a good time. “They’re like the kings of the jungle,” says Dubinet of the fiery lion sign. They constantly feel the need to puff out their chests, whether that’s dressing to the nines or buying the bar a drink. The only downside: They can get caught up in the spotlight, often eager to show off—with selfies and stories—rather than truly enjoy their experiences.
Where to Go: “Big personality Leos draw energy from seats of political power or centers of glitz and glamour,” says Dubinet. The world’s shopping and nightlife meccas are a natural choice, but chartering a yacht off the French Riviera or Mallorca might take their bragging rights to new heights.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)
If Virgo travelers seem high-strung it’s because they’re meticulous to a fault. “They tend to outline every detail in advance—it brings them peace to know everything is going to go according to plan,” says Dubinet. While that kind of perfectionism can feel overbearing at times, these nature-loving earth signs are also the ultimate people pleasers—they just want everyone to have the best time possible with zero chance of disaster.
Where to Go: Anxious Virgos are often so busy fixing and planning and looking out for everyone else that they sometimes forget that all-important zeitgeist ideal: self care. Spa getaways help soothe nerves and appeal to their health-conscious nature, as do low-key destinations with a focus on the outdoors like Big Sur, California, and the Berkshires.

Libra (September 23-October 22)
Like the weighing scales that signify them, peacekeeping Libras strive to find balance and harmony in all aspects of life, a virtue that makes them thoughtful connoisseurs of art, music, and dance. But as an air sign ruled by Venus, they’re also die-hard romantics with a taste for the cerebral. “Sometimes that mix translates to luxury seeking—they love the robes and slippers and room service at hotels—but not always,” says Dubinet.
Where to Go: Libras feel most at home in romantic cities with a wealth of cultural riches—think Prague, Paris, or Istanbul—and hotels that feature Old World staples like timeless frescoes, crystal chandeliers, and gilded mirrors.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)
A water sign ruled by Pluto, Scorpios are like abysses—deep, dark, and mysterious. “Scorpios are individual and spiritual,” says Dubinet. “They look for transformative places where they can let go of the old and embrace the new.” They’re also attracted to unusual or off-the-beaten-path destinations and would rather be alone than mixed up in a crowd.
Where to Go: “Scorpios want to uncover hidden truths,” says Dubinet. She suggests choosing ancient sources of power with spiritual connections to the earth to satisfy what she calls their “underground kind of energy—” perhaps Machu Picchu or Angkor Wat, in Cambodia.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)
You know that saying about the world being your oyster? It’s especially true for fire sign Sagittarius, who is ruled by Jupiter, a planet typically linked with expansiveness. Natural-born travelers, Sagittarians love the freedom that comes with wandering, opting for nomadic experiences that allow them to gain wisdom from other cultures. “They’re like the philosophers of the Zodiac,” says Dubinet.
Where to Go: Forget the weekend getaway. Sagittarius travelers need all-encompassing, deep-dive adventures to entertain their restless spirits. An African safari, an RV-led road trip through the American West’s slot canyons, or a trek to the far reaches of India allow them to engage with local cultures while developing their own perspectives on life.
