Tracy Pollan

The actress on tidal rivers, seaplanes, and an "I Love Lucy" moment.

Highly subjective takes on life's most interesting experiences

Most ridiculous travel purchase you’ve ever made?

I purchased a 10-pound wheel of Pecorino cheese in Italy and attempted to discreetly bring it back on the plane to the States, à la “I Love Lucy.”

What is the best swimming spot you’ve ever been to?

When we were in Fiji on the island of Vanua Levu, we jumped off a bridge wearing inner tubes. We floated up the tidal river into Salt Lake and waded there for three hours until the tide reversed. We then floated back with the tide towards the sea.

The hardest place to get to that you’ve ever visited — and was it worth it?

The hardest place I had to get to was Clayoquot on Vancouver Island, Canada. We took a seaplane (terrifying), landed on the Clayoquot Sound, and boarded a horse-drawn carriage to get to our tent. Absolutely worth it.
