In Singapore's Marina Bay Sands Theater this evening, the world's top chefs gathered for the annual World's 50 Best Restaurant Awards ceremony, revealing which restaurants around the world made it into the hall of fame for the next twelve months.

The Cote D'Azur's Mirazur, which came third last year, took home the prestigious award, replacing Italy’s Osteria Francescana. What makes Argentine chef Mauro Colagreco's Mirazur special? According to World's 50 Best, it's the "unrivalled views of the French Riviera, three levels of cascading vegetable gardens churning out the sweetest produce and a team of outrageously talented cooks and front-of-house staff combine to make Mirazur the ultimate restaurant experience."

Copenhagen's popular Noma came second.

The pool of voters is made up of restaurant industry experts, chefs are voted for by their peers. This year, the organization said that voters were “being encouraged to look beyond the list itself in their travels, and will once again be asked to take issues of representation, reputation, and diversity”.

Chef José Andrés won the American Express Icon Award this year, especially for his huge humanitarian efforts.
