Imagine getting to live within a grand home in one of America’s most luxurious hotels and say that a president and royalty stayed there. Seems impossible, right? But that’s precisely what’s on the market right now. The historic Astor Suite in NYC’s Plaza Hotel was just listed for sale for $19.95 million.

The nearly 4,300-square-foot home features four bedrooms, five-and-a-half baths, and interiors designed by architect S.R. Gambrel Inc. who also worked on rebuilding Windsor Castle in England. That means you’ll see historic details like custom millwork, 12-foot ceilings made from “old-world hand-drawn plaster,” fireplaces, English oak paneling, built-ins, hand-hammered leather walls from France, and furnishings from across the globe.

The layout is also reminiscent of old-world grandeur. You’re greeted by a spacious reception hall that opens to a sprawling living and dining spaces ideal for entertaining. Lounge in the stunning living room, enjoy dinner in the corner dining room near the chef-worthy kitchen and have a nightcap in the stately library. Then retire to the sleeping quarters where a master suite with a huge walk-in closet, spa-like bath, and dressing area awaits. Plus, there are two additional bedroom suites complete with marble baths and ample closet space.

While there are plenty of historical details, the home has been updated for modern living. It has a new HVAC with a humidifier for artwork and one-touch control of the lighting, audio, and temperature from your smartphone or iPad.

Of course, the three main highlights have to be the views, history, and amenities. It’s situated “on the most desired corner of the iconic Plaza building” and boasts Central Park and Fifth Avenue views. Guests like John Jacob Astor, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and John F. Kennedy have all stayed in Residence 509. And you get access to hotel-style services like a concierge, butler service, 24-hour in-room dining, and twice-daily housekeeping.

If that still isn’t enough space for you, Residence 508 is available for sale next door and can be used as a suite for guests or staff.
