A new kind of superyacht was introduced at the Dubai International Boat Show 2019: an ultra-luxe boat focused on the whims of a millennial.
CNN Travel shares that the new design focuses on experience over all else. Of course, that being said, it doesn't get more comfortable than Esquel. The 345-foot boat was not introduced in full design at the boat show, but the concept was unveiled to attendees. Designed by Dutch company Oceanco, the range on the yacht is unbelievable: it can reportedly travel 7,000 nautical miles before porting. To put that into perspective, that's a third of the way around the world.
Oceanco is calling the new design an explorer yacht, given that it not only focuses on luxe amenities but also the ability to turn certain spaces into laboratories in such an occasion that marine biologists could benefit from the vessels long range abilities.
The exterior of Esquel is incredibly cold, in a "straight out of a spy movie" kind of way. But the interior is a totally different story. "The ambition for the look and feel of Esquel’s interior is geared towards depicting the life, influences, and home of a young explorer," says interior stylist Gina Brennan in Oceanco's press release. "Visible will be an eclectic mix of antiques and artifacts collected on his/her travels."
The boat's flexible layout can be used to add in additional cabins, research offices, dedicated seminar areas, or first response units, depending on the boat's mission. As the press release shares, "...she is also imminently qualified to host a celebrity part at the Cannes Film Festival to––perhaps––raise awareness for Ocean Conservation... or to simply celebrate life."
