Art of the Return: What Jennifer Fisher Brought Back from Paris

New York-based jewelry designer Jennifer Fisher always brings an extra bag to fashion’s capital city. Here’s why.

Jewelry designer Jennifer Fisher has been traveling to Paris for ten years. On a recent trip, to show her collection at the Ritz hotel, Fisher made time to search for new inspiration and, of course, to shop. “The stores, even the same brands you have in the U.S., always have a different selection,” she says. “I like the French point of view.”

Her latest haul included teal acetate sunglasses ($450) and gold lambskin kitten heels ($790)—“a hybrid between a boot and a sandal”—from the Céline flagship (53 Av. Montaigne). For dinner, Fisher’s new spot is the open-kitchen Clover Grill, located in Les Halles: “Their specialty is steak frites— the best I’ve ever had. And that’s saying something!” For dessert (and gifts for her two kids), Fisher drops by Fouquet (23 Rue François) to pick up candied pistachios: “It’s an old-school store that has those candies that your grandmother probably kept in a dish. And the packaging is really beautiful.”

Like many visiting fashion insiders, Fisher stocks up on French-made beauty products, like Biafine’s Emulsion moisturizer ($35), found at any neighborhood drugstore. “Biafine is why we all go. It smells amazing, and it’s lightweight,” she says. Among Fisher’s other beauty buys are Olfactory Library Series 7: Sweet Sticky Cake ($95) from the Japanese brand Comme des Garçons’ flagship boutique (54 Rue du Faubourg St.-Honoré); nontoxic brand Ilia’s Moondance powder ($35); and Christian Dior’s Rouge Dior Couture Colour lipstick in Trafalgar ($35), which she stores in a Balenciaga leather pochette ($750). “That bag was sold out in the United States, but I found it in Paris. That happens a lot!” she explains.

To chronicle all of her Paris inspiration on paper, she stocked up on pencils ($10 each) from Astier de Villatte (173 Rue St.-Honoré) for sketching, plus something new for her next trip: a Leica D-LUX digital camera ($1,095).
