A Dining Experience Inside Priscilla Presley’s Old Beauty Parlor

The country singer Jaime Wyatt’s most unexpected meal.

Highly subjective takes on life's most interesting experiences.

What’s the most unexpected meal you’ve ever had?

I'm a huge Elvis fan and my girlfriend loves Priscilla Presley, so for her birthday I found a very special restaurant in Memphis called the Beauty Shop. It used to be a beauty parlor in the 1960s, where Priscilla would get her hair done. It is now an incredible woman-owned restaurant that serves everything from floral shrub mocktails to root beer floats. Naturally, we started with a root beer float, then had the roasted balsamic beet & clementine salad for dinner, and finished the night with the best strawberry cake I've ever had in my life. To boot, they still have the hair dryer stations in there!! I must also say that we mostly ate sweets at the Beauty Shop, since we had already pre-partied at Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken, the best and oldest chicken spot in Memphis.
