Hatton, Sri Lanka: Ceylon Tea Trails

Twenty-one rooms spread across four tea-planter’s cottages, 45 minutes outside the popular colonial town of Nuwara Eliya, have been meticulously restored. The cottages are a five- to ten-minute drive away from one another, and each has its own design, staff, kitchen, and pool. Our favorite is the gingerbread Castlereagh, situated beside a lake. Breakfast is in bed, naturally, followed by a butler-drawn bath. Pack your best linen shirts to dress the part for walks through the rustling green rows of bushes, for snooker up at Earl’s Regency (Kundasale; 94-81/242-2122; aitkenspencehotels.com) in the nearby Sacred City of Kandy, and to enjoy lavish cream teas presented in formal English gardens all your own. Rooms start at $659 a night, with a two-night minimum; 94-11/774-5700; teatrails.com.
