In just a few weeks, we will remember the notable leaders of our country’s past on President’s Day. But one Washington D.C. hotel wants to honor the four-legged friends that stood beside these distinguished men. That’s why the infamous Watergate Hotel will be giving guests’ dogs the presidential treatment with a special “Presidential Pooches” package.

What’s included for your beloved canine? In-room dog beds and water and food bowls, deep cleaning for your room, access to dog walking and babysitting services by Wagtime DC, and one dog food meal per day. Oh, and those meals include options like cage-free eggs with air-chilled chicken and carrots and grass-fed lamb with caramelized onion mashed potatoes.

And the visit wouldn’t be complete without access to the hotel’s Museum of the Dog showcase featuring artifacts and mixed medium art of past presidential pooches like FDR’s Fala and The Bush’s beloved Miss Beazley and Millie. The exhibition will display a number of documents, including letters relating to dogs, the AKC registrations of dogs owned by Lyndon Johnson and Barack Obama, and an oil painting by Christine Merrill of Millie, Barbara and George H.W. Bushes beloved English Springer Spaniel. There are also photographs of Everett Dirksen, Barry Goldwater, and John Kennedy Jr.

“As we set to launch our inaugural pet-friendly program, replete with Chef-created feasts, we couldn’t think of a better way to unveil it then to spotlight Presidential Pooches at our iconic hotel,” Pascal Forotti, Managing Director, told Departures. “We have partnered with the AKC Museum of the Dog for President’s Day Weekend to feature a pop-up exhibition of four-legged friends that stood beside distinguished men of our nation’s past.”

The Presidential Pooches package is available for $125 on top of your room rate. Extra wet puppy kisses are free.
