Ubud, Bali’s highland village, is now home to Mandapa (rooms from $455; Jalan Kedewatan, Banjar Kedewatan; 62-361/479-2777; ritzcarlton.com), a Ritz-Carlton Reserve that opened in September on the Ayung River with 25 one- to three-bedroom villas and 35 suites. Wellness is emphasized, with Balinese herbs used in the spa. This year Ubud will likely see the opening of six new hillside villas at Alila Ubud (rooms from $220; Desa Melinggih Kelod, Payangan; 62-361/975-963; alilahotels.com). The Mandarin Oriental Bali (mandarinoriental.com) and the all-villa Waldorf Astoria Bali (waldorfastoria.com) will debut in 2017.
