Meeting people when you travel is almost always a given, but what if you simply want to escape and not see another soul? Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway and some seclusion to be with your current flame or just some solo time off-the-grid, here is a curated selection of resorts that will not only oblige but also give you the royal treatment.

Casa Velas

In Casa Velas, an adults-only resort in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, check into a two-level presidential suite that includes a bedroom with vaulted ceilings, kitchen, living area, extra-large hot tub and private plunge pool. All spa services and dining can be done ensuite, along with private yoga classes. If you do feel the need to venture out, the hotel's amenities include tequila and beer tastings, painting classes, and views for days. Rooms from $700; hotelcasavelas.com.

Grand Isle Resort

Located in The Exumas, Grand Isle Resort offers guests the options of staying in a private villa, miles from the hustle and bustle. One, two and three bedroom villas, as well as a four bedroom grand penthouse, are main highlights. All suites feature a kitchen and dining area, and the penthouse includes a media room, 1,100-square foot balcony overlooking the ocean, golf course access, and a private elevator. Rooms from $500; grandisleresort.com.

Petit St. Vincent

The entire island of Petit St. Vincent, located in The Grenadines, functions as a luxury hotel. It includes 22 one- and two-bedroom bluff cottages and luxury villas discreetly tucked into the hillside or along the shoreline. A spa, yoga pavilion and wine cellar round out the offerings at this scenic and low-key destination. There is also the option of a total island buyout (just in case you really need your private time). Rooms from $1,570; slh.com.

The Boatshed

Located in New Zealand, The Boatshed’s spacious and stunning Lighthouse Suite has just what you need if you’re looking for a bit of seclusion. A three-story structure with spectacular ocean views, spend your days watching sailboats glide past, post up in the on-premise spa, or sample from the sumptuous (all organic) room service menu. The hotel also has two bungalows and four other suites to suit the needs of their guests. Rooms from $1,050; boatshed.co.nz.

Constance Moofushi Resort

Constance Moofushi Resort in the Maldives boasts over-water man-made lagoons with 360 view luxury baths for total natural immersion. The private terrace on the villas comes equipped with staircases that lead directly to the ocean, ensuring an ultra-private getaway all day. Rooms from $930; constancehotels.com.

Kura Costa Rica

New to Kura’s popular resort is this collection of master suites. With ample indoor and outdoor space, including an iconic Kurà-style private infinity pool with panoramic vistas of the famous Whale’s Tail sandbar formation, guests have the choice of the Infinity Suites or the Junior Suites. Extra-large glass walls and terraces make the Infinity Suite attractive, while the Junior Suites are hidden within the rainforest canopy, allowing guests to see toucans, parrots, cusingas, and hummingbirds up close. Rooms from $750; kuracostarica.com.

Courtesy Yasawa Island Resort & Spa

Yasawa

Fiji’s tropical hideaway, Yasawa features ten private white-sand beaches and 18 traditional island bures nestled in between palm trees. However, the Lomalagi Bure is the most exclusive of these, hidden from the rest of the resort and set on a private stretch of beach. Take a dip in the secluded infinity edge pool or spend the afternoon in the hammock, taking in the salty air. From $698; yasawa.com.

W Koh Samui

The Wow Ocean Haven at the W Koh Samui offers a private pool with sweeping views, a decadent outdoor shower, and a spacious deck perfect for massages and breakfast-with-a-view. It also boasts a Jacuzzi tub, spacious balcony, and state-of-the-art entertainment system. Rooms from $720; wkohsamui.com.

Courtesy Gladden Private Island

Gladden

Located 20 miles off the coast of Belize on a private island, at Gladden you'll feel like the only person in the world. (White glove service, however, is always just moments away). A “privacy meter” indicates if a member of the staff is on the main island for any reason, but otherwise, the entire location is yours as is a swimming pool and stunning views of the coral reef. Rooms from $2,950; gladdenprivateisland.com.

Courtesy Azura Retreats

Azura Quilalea

Mozambique plays host to Azura Quilalea, the first private retreat to open on the island. The hotel includes nine villas, four sandy beaches, a forest of indigenous baobab trees, a coral-rich reef, and a relaxed and understated ‘Robinson Crusoe’ castaway style that belies the comforts and experiences on offer. Think that nine villas will include too many others? The island is also available for exclusive use–that’s 86 acres all for you. Rooms from $895; azura-retreats.com.
