How the Gucci Loafer Became a Modern Icon

As its 70 years of illustrious history prove, the style makes a lasting impression.

In the ever-competitive world of five-star hotels, top properties are consistently upping the ante for their luxury-loving guests. The Ritz-Carlton New York, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property, just launched a $50,000 nightcap, and Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Denver will have puppies delivered to your room with Prosecco. But one Houston hotel proves that everything is bigger in Texas as they’re offering a package for $1 million.

The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston, the state’s only AAA Five-Diamond property, just introduced the most extravagant wine package. For the seven-figure price tag, you get a “once in a lifetime opportunity,” according to the hotel. So, what’s included?

You’ll get to drive around in “His & Hers” luxury Bentley vehicles: a 2020 Continental GT Convertible and a 2020 limited edition Bentagya. A series of personalized gourmet wine dinners on property created and prepared by Executive Chef Jean Luc Royere and hosted by Master Sommelier Keith Goldston is part of the package. And you get luxury overnight accommodations at the hotel.

The highlight has to be getting to enjoy 43 vintages of Chateau Mouton Rothschild. If you’re a wine lover, you’ll probably know why that’s so special. But just in case you need a refresher, the vineyard produced one of the most expensive bottles of wine ever sold; their 1945 vintage fetched nearly $115,000 at a Christie’s auction in 1997. Plus, bottles for sale today can easily cost $800 to $30,000 a pop.

Those multiple tastings and bespoke gourmet dinners will be served at the newly opened The Cellar at The Post Oak Hotel. The intimate venue is home to an impressive $3.5 million-dollar collection of contemporary wines--30,000 bottles to be exact—spanning three centuries and 24 countries.

This isn’t the first time the luxury property has offered an over-the-top package. In celebration of this year’s 50th anniversary of the lunar landing, they created an exclusive package that allowed two guests to be part of a space mission. The cost of the out-of-this-world experience? The package ran for $10,000. Pennies compared to their latest offer.
