Wailea Beach Resort Debuts a $100 Million Renovation

Opened in 1976, Wailea Beach Resort has always stuck out on Maui’s south coast for its prime oceanfront location, hugged by two beaches. But in recent years the hotel started to feel dated compared to freshly redone neighbors like the Four Seasons and Hotel Wailea. On December 24, the resort, which is owned by Marriott, unveiled a $100-million revamp that completely reimagines the design and guest experience for the modern traveler. The resort’s 491 rooms and 56 suites feel more residential, with enhanced in-room technology such as personal device mirror-casting, custom music streaming, and personalized Netflix and Hulu content. Six new dining options range from Humble Market Kitchin by start chef Roy Yamaguchi to a hip food truck serving local staples like poke and shave ice. A two-acre, kid-friendly pool boasts four waterslides and an interactive splash zone, while an adults-only infinity pool offers the serenity of overwater cabanas. A separate dive pool was created for scuba certification, diving, snorkeling, and other watersports instruction. From $519; 3700 Wailea Alanui Dr., Maui; 808-879-1922; waileabeachresort.com.
