Italy was one of the hardest-hit countries during the spread of COVID-19, forcing nearly every business to shut its doors. That included hotels just before the stunning spring season. But with restrictions easing up for summer, properties are more excited than ever to welcome travelers. In fact, Belmond is so thrilled to reopen its Italian portfolio this week that they created a film inviting people to dream about visiting.
To celebrate the reopening of the American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts properties Belmond Hotel Cipriani, Venice and Belmond Hotel Splendido, Portofino on June 19, the legendary hospitality brand partnered with Emmy award-nominated director Francesco Carrozzini to create My Love Letter to Italy. He wrote, directed, and narrated the flick that takes viewers on a personal and nostalgic journey explaining his love for Italy.
“I have been staying at Belmond hotels for as long as I can remember, and, as an Italian, I always felt they captured the true spirit of Italy,” said Carrozzini in a statement. “During lockdown, I kept dreaming of the Italian summer, and I was longing to go back home. Now more than ever, I appreciate what I had too often taken for granted about Italy—its food, its beauty, and of course, its people. I made this film to capture that feeling, to make us Italians fall in love with Italy all over again.”
In addition to the film release, Belmond also announced a series of private experiences. Across the portfolio, guests can book private alfresco dining, nature excursions, and community interactions. For example, Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo in Sicily will set up a candlelit evening on the terrace where DH Lawrence penned Lady Chatterley’s Lover. Or, meet with a local fisherman to learn about the world-renowned anchovy-based sauce colatura di alici, at Belmond Hotel Caruso on the Amalfi Coast.
Other hotels such as Belmond Hotel Caruso, Ravello, and Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo, Taormina—both American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts properties—will open in July.
