Cemetery Tour with Historic New Orleans Tours

Famous for their hauntingly beautiful aboveground tombs and mausoleums, the cemeteries of New Orleans are as integral to the city as Creole mansions and streetcars. Author and historian Robert Florence leads informative, narrative tours of St. Louis Cemetery #1 (just outside the French Quarter), which is the resting place of voodoo queen Marie Laveau. Preservation group Save Our Cemeteries (504-525-3377) also does group tours of St. Louis #1, as well as Lafayette Cemetery #1 in the Garden District, with its 1,100 family tombs. 504-947-2120; tourneworleans.com.
