"South America is a bird lover's continent. Even the cities have great birds: Caracas, Venezuela, is full of escaped macaws that were once pets; wild parrots have moved into urban areas in Brazil because the shade trees have an abundance of nuts. Peru is the ultimate: There are fat green parrots in the Amazon that are only found in the Americas. At night you can hear hundreds of them talking. Parrots are similar to people—they like to come home early and socialize before they go to sleep. Cocktail hour...minus the drinks."
