In a Pickle

Why pickleball is the feel-good game craze we all need right now.

"Each is like a blank canvas," explains Charla Buck as she points to one of the elaborate painted tabletops she creates at Reynière Workshop. The hand-carved bases and tabletops are inspired by 18th-century furniture designs, and Buck then hand-paints classical decorative motifs on top--as in St. Peter's Table, which features Roman scenes taken from an 1820 scagliola tabletop by Peter Della Valle. Afterwards, she applies a labor-intensive watergilt trim. The detailing here is so fine it takes a month to complete one piece. Custom commissions welcome. $6,000-$13,000. Call 914-774-1541.
