With all due respect to the growing ranks of excellent mixologists in the city, São Paulo doesn't traditionally do cocktails. The potable of choice is beer, namely chopp (pronounced shop-pee), served ice-cold with a foamy head. And the place for a perfectly poured brew—and all the relaxed bonhomie that accompanies it—is Bar Balcao in Jardins. Local media grandees and trendy corporate strivers sit along a 40-yard bar that snakes its way through the room, decorated with Pop Art paintings and sixties-style lighting fixtures hanging above. At 150 Rua Doutor Melo Alves; 55-11/3063-6091.
