The Last Word on the US Open

Carvell Wallace on greatness, Serena, and the US Open’s best menswear.

There are certainly newer hotels in town and many other vistas of Victoria Harbour, but it's hard to have a more intimate experience with the skyline and waterline than this. Just above the bay, with floor-to-ceiling windows (a feature shared with other executive suites), this 750-square-foot room has a staggering vantage point midway along the horizon, with a view of the new convention center (which looks like a miniature Sydney Opera House), and, from the bed, of The Centre skyscraper, which changes colors at night. What's more, being this close to the water puts you in the midst of the harbor traffic free-for-all—eye popping when an ocean liner goes by. The decor is handsome too—recently redone in Thai gold and green silk. If suite 326 happens to be taken, there are six others on the third floor with only slightly less central views. $1,000. 18 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong; 800-545-4000; fax 852-2739-4546;
