Any day now, Nick Jones, the British owner of Soho House, New York, will open his 14-room hotel, brasserie, and members' club in London. High Road House (sohohouse.com), on Chiswick High Road, is a bit west of what's generally acceptable—that is, Notting Hill—but for a leafier London and fast access to Heathrow, it could be just the thing.

In India a much-anticipated marriage is about to bear fruit: five safari lodges from Taj Hotels and CC Africa. Instead of the trampled Ranthambhore Park, you can spot tigers in the Corbett, Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Panna, and Pench tiger reserves. The lodges, which range from luxe tents to tree houses, will start opening in October (tajhotels.com).

Orient-Express Hotels has entered the fray in Saint Petersburg, instituting sweeping upgrades at the Grand Hotel Europe (grand-hotel-europe.com), a stately old dame just off Nevsky Prospekt. And not a moment too soon—the Grand was soiled by wear, tear, and conferences.

We have high hopes for the new Bulgari Hotel in Bali (bulgarihotels.com), opening this fall with 59 villas designed by Antonio Citterio and Partners near Uluwatu, on the southern tip of the island. Bulgari Milan has already proved worthy, despite skepticism about how well a fashion brand could run a hotel.
