Valextra prides itself on attention to detail

Since its founding in 1937, leather goods company Valextra has prided itself on attention to detail, using prized German leather for its award-winning briefcases, suitcases, and purses.

Now Valextra is updating its collections, with a line of men's soft briefcases and women's bags and scarves. The company's VL logo is printed directly onto a rabbit-fur shoulder bag ($430) and a bucket-shaped, patent-calfskin bag with polished-nickel trim ($343). A small leather item like the crimson business-card holder ($62) boasts a glossy lacquer finish.

Customers can alter existing models or work with craftsmen (the laboratory at Via Cerva 11) to create their own designs (the minimum wait is three months for custom-made products). Piazza San Babila 1, 20122 Milan, Italy; 39-027-600-2989;
