On our last visit to Sheen Falls, the justly celebrated lodge in the Irish countryside, it was clear that the interiors needed work. We're happy to report that the sprucing up has begun, starting with the Presidential Suite. The style, like the rest of the hotel, is cool Danish modern mixed with warm walnut furniture in Art Deco and Regency designs, Persian rugs, silk and leather upholstery, and oil paintings from the owner's collection. But little in the room competes with the view from the octagonal suite's floor-to-ceiling windows and two terraces: Sheen Falls itself and the 16th-century stone bridge crossing it. Besides the Presidential, four other new rooms were added and 17 renovated in the same style (the best are the Sheen Suite, a studio directly below the Presidential, and Suite 311, with views of the falls and the town of Kenmare). Sheen Falls' spa has also been expanded, and eventually the rest of the 66 rooms will be redone. Rates, $475-$1,800. 800-735-2478; 353-64-41600.
Hotel prices show high-season rates from the least expensive double to the most expensive suite.
