The Art of San Juan
San Juan's Galeria Botello takes its name from Angel Botello, the Spanish-born, French-educated artist who lived and worked in Puerto Rico from the 1950s to the 1980s. The gallery displays a comprehensive collection of paintings and sculptures by the artist critics have called the "Caribbean Gauguin" for his use of bold colors and depictions of island life. It also shows canvases, photographs, sculpture, and ceramics by 30 other Caribbean and Latin American artists. At 314 F.D. Roosevelt Avenue, Hato Rey; 787-754-7430;

Great Find: Uncovering a Gem
Jeweler Jeannette Fossas' showroom in San Juan's Miramar district is our favorite discovery in a long while. Fossas' creations in platinum and yellow gold, such as her Heliconia necklace and sculptural Vice Versa rings, are serious modern pieces that strongly show her training as an architect. From $1,200 to $120,000. $ At 706 Miramar Avenue; 787-722-4154.
