Books of Note

The well-traveled kid

Miroslav Sasek's This Is London and This Is Paris, published in 1959, were the first travel books for children—and in our opinion are still among the best of their kind, especially now that Sasek's classics have been reissued by Rizzoli. The jaunty sketches of Piccadilly Circus, the bird market near Notre Dame, and the secondhand-book stalls lining the Seine are as evocative as ever. And because it has been 45 years, after all, new sights like The London Eye and I.M. Pei's Louvre pyramid are also included. $18.
