Art of the Amazon

In the artists' neighborhood of Vila Madalena, Beth Lima's Espaco Imaginario is on the vanguard of modern Brazilian design. Lima works almost exclusively with native materials, bending jacaranda and other woods into sculptures and decorative objects as well as more practical—but no less stunning—items such as fruit bowls, magazine racks, and trivets ($20–$280). She also puts Amazonian seeds and stones to use as jewelry ($40–$3,000), pairing them with silver in styles inspired by native tribes. At 193 Rua Fidalga; 55-11/3814-3536.
