Bar Report: Beer and Cocktails in Asheville, NC

It’s not all breweries in Asheville. The destination has a number of great cocktail bars that are well worth a visit, too. Here, we highlight the best from both worlds.

Elegant Brews: Wicked Weed

With more breweries per capita than any other U.S. city, finding locally-made beer (and cider and mead, for that matter) is never a problem in Asheville, so the question is more where rather than what to drink. In town, Wicked Weed offers one of the most pleasant experiences, free of the traditional dark over-decorated tavern aesthetic of typical beer bars. A wide patio and glass-fronted building welcome drinkers to the full restaurant inside the high-ceilinged, high-energy space. The upstairs offers 16 beers (all their own) on tap, cocktails, and elevated pub food, while the downstairs beer bar by the original brewery is both more casual and more tempting to beer geeks with up to 25 types of suds from which to select. 91 Biltmore Ave.; 828-575-9599; wickedweedbrewing.com.
