The Best Malls to Wander in Bangkok

Fashion designer Batsheva Hay’s most surreal travel experience.

Highly subjective takes on life's most interesting experiences.

What was your most surreal travel experience?

I spent a couple of surreal weeks alone in Bangkok around the time I turned 30. I spent most of my time wandering the malls — Erawan Shrine, Central World, Erawan Mall — which are outrageous and amazing, and laying by the pools at mediocre hotels. I love a chaotic city and the only escape from NYC I could think of at the time was making myself anonymous in another insane city.
