Istanbul Archaeological Museums
The first museum to open in Istanbul is still one of its finest. The whole place is divided into three sections—Archaeology, Ancient Orient, and Tiled Kiosk Museum, which houses Turkish and Islamic art—and it houses a vast collection of ancient Greek, Roman, and Turkish relics, not to mention pieces dug up from as far afield as Africa and the Balkans. Save some time to view the sarcophagus of Alexander the Great, which was found in the Royal Necropolis in Sidon in 1887 and is widely believed to inter the body of Abdalonymus, the king of Sidon.
