In a time of such uncertainty, companies across the globe are looking for ways to help combat the coronavirus pandemic. That’s why American Express just announced that card members enrolled in the Membership Rewards program can now use their points towards a donation to Feeding America.
Available through JustGiving.com, you can enter the amount you’d like the charity to receive. Then at the final step in the process, you’ll have the option to apply points towards that amount—you can use points for all or part of the donation amount. That donation goes towards helping feed communities and individuals while food banks across the country are working overtime to feed people in need to keep them healthy while shelves at the stores are empty.
Additionally, American Express will match the dollar amount of each donation up to $1 million in total contributions. This is part of the company's continued support of combating COVID-19. They also announced that over the next few months, they would provide up to $5 million in varying types of financial aid, including $2 million in grants to the International Medical Corps, the CDC Foundation, and the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization.
Additionally, a Small Business social campaign rolled out this week explaining how consumers can support small businesses while continuing to practice social distancing.
“Want to support small businesses while keeping our communities healthy,” reads the Shop Small Instagram. “You can #StayHome and #ShopSmall by ordering a delivery, placing an online purchase, or buying a gift card from a small business now to use later. These simple acts support small businesses while helping keep our communities healthy.”
Amex is determined to use its power of community to fight this pandemic however they can. “We know that together with our Card Members, we can make a difference for organizations providing critical support during this time,” the company said in a release. “We encourage Card Members across the U.S. to join us in our efforts to address the impact of COVID-19.”
