With international travel currently on hold or limited, many wanderlusters are using the time to take a classic road trip this summer and fall. But deciding where to go and figuring out the logistics can often be a hassle (especially with everything else going on in the world). So one luxury extended-stay hotel brand decided to take care of the planning for you. AKA recently created their own road trip offering where they will curate a drive-and-stay experience along the east coast.
Residents staying at any AKA NYC, Philadelphia, and D.C. properties can book a road trip package to any other east coast property. It offers residents the chance to stay a week or longer in each respective city and experience all there is to offer in the outdoors with the perfect photo opps and stops along the way to the next destination. AKA will provide a custom outdoor, socially distanced activity itinerary. Think bird watching in Central Park, indulging in a famous Philly Cheesesteak, and enjoying a cocktail at The Wharf in D.C.

“The idea here was after four months of everyone sheltering in place and with the summer season upon us, we're finding that travelers are ready to piece together some kind of summer plan. New York, Philadelphia and D.C. are really perfect driving-distance locations, and there are many options of fun outdoor activities to be enjoyed," said Elana Friedman, Chief Marketing Officer of AKA.
A sample itinerary from New York to Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. would feature a plethora of socially-distant activities like a self-guided bike tour around Manhattan, a hiking plan along the Schuylkill River Trail in Philadelphia, and suggestions of where to catch the sunset in the nation’s capital with a monument in the background. Stops in between the destinations are suggested, too, like a visit to the famous Asbury Park boardwalk in New Jersey and a stroll through Longwood Gardens in Brandywine Valley.
Also included are a picnic blanket and custom-designed S’well water bottle for alfresco picnics, Spotify recommended playlists for a road trip, goodie bag with snacks for the road, a bottle of a.vin wine upon arrival, and special parking rates.
“As the world transitions into reopening, plan your own summer road trip that allows for social distancing, privacy, and peace of mind all without sacrificing any adventure along the way,” a statement on the hotel’s website read.
Pricing is upon request. You can personalize the trip by choosing between two AKA New York City locations—Central Park or Times Square—and two Philadelphia locations—Rittenhouse Square or University City.
