Two powerhouse luxury brands join forces to create the silver baguette of your dreams.
SOMETIMES, A BAG is not just a bag. It’s a personal talisman, a loaf of bread, objet d’art… In the case of this one-of-a-kind work, it’s all of the above. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Fendi Baguette bag — the iconic accessory created by Silvia Venturini Fendi in 1997 that was meant to be worn under the arm as if one were carrying a bread loaf — the famed Roman fashion house joined forces with the artisans at Tiffany & Co. to recreate the signature bag in pure sterling silver.
Distinguished as the first of Fendi’s “hand in hand” partnerships to originate outside of Italy, the baguette showcases Tiffany & Co.’s superlative craftsmanship and serves as a weighty five-pound love letter to the alloy itself. It is constructed at the famed Tiffany & Co. hollowware workshop in Rhode Island by silversmiths using a specific, age-old sculpting technique called chasing, in which hand tools are used to raise, depress, and manipulate designs in the metal. Specifically, the floral designs on the front — lilies (the national flower of Italy) and roses (the national flower of New York state) — were chased by hand, part of a creative process that requires over 250 hours of meticulous labor.
While it might be challenging to snag one of these particular bespoke accessories, don’t worry: The fantasy collaboration also heralds the release of a capsule collection of new baguettes (crafted in smooth leather, croco leather with diamonds, or silk satin) designed to pay homage to the craftsmanship and attention to detail the two legendary houses are famous for. Turns out, the famed baguette also looks incredible when crafted in Tiffany’s signature blue.
