For the 10th year, the brand encourages shoppers to make the conscious decision to shop small and locally.

This year on November 30, American Express will celebrate its 10th annual Small Business Saturday, a holiday shopping celebration that encourages communities to shop locally and embrace small businesses.

With the country-wide increase of small businesses accepting American Express cards in stores (over 1.6 million more locations within the U.S. in 2018), cardholders can now use this map, which shows local businesses in their area that accept the Cards.

This year is particularly exciting due to the way in which American Express will be raising small business awareness. Looking forward to the next 10 years, the brand hopes to research the best strategies for backing small businesses so that they can not only maintain a good standing in their market, but thrive as much as possible. American Express recently uncovered an exciting statistic that revealed 67 cents of every dollar spent in local communities stays in that community, which says a lot with regards to the impact shoppers they can have within their local community. Long-term, locals can expect downtown communities with bustling small businesses to continue to grow the more they support those local shops.

Those who want to get involved in Small Business Saturday beyond shopping locally, American Express has provided several platforms through which community members can contribute to the efforts. Major impacts can be made within local communities by becoming a Neighborhood Champion, planning an event, or promoting a local businesses through customizable materials available here
