A Sleek Projector to Conjure Movie Theater Nostalgia

The London-based luxury goods company created a capsule collection utilizing props and pieces from the Indiana Jones film set.
THE FIRST MOVIE my dad took me to see in theaters was “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Like so many other elementary school children in 1981, I was nothing short of obsessed with the movie. Not only did I see it twice more in theaters, I begged my mom to buy me a leather bomber jacket and took to wearing a fedora my grandmother allowed me to buy from a thrift store. It was a sartorial fascination that was blessedly short-lived, but my fondness for Indiana Jones would live on. The character’s effortless style — a look that ping-pongs between tweedy university professor and whip-cracking archeologist adventurer — remains one of the most iconic menswear vibes in the history of American cinema. In the years since I first saw “Raiders,” I’ve seen every subsequent Indiana Jones movie in theaters with my dad, a tradition I hope to keep alive with the release of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” the fifth and reportedly final entry in the film franchise.
In celebration of the film, London luxury goods company Métier — the brand responsible for creating what is still my all-time favorite leather carry-on — collaborated with costume designer Joanna Johnston to create a special capsule collection inspired by the film. The interiors are made from a patchwork of fabrics from the movie set — including Indy’s leather jacket, his suit, shirts, and the trousers worn in the film by Phoebe Waller-Bridge — and provide clever evolutions of the brand’s signature pieces. Easter eggs include hidden pockets and an extra D ring to attach your keys (or your bullwhip). Each of the three collector’s edition pieces have a limited run of 10 units and come with a metal plate with a unique serial number and a collector’s card, which explains the materials used. While they may feel precious, in true Métier form, they are built to withstand any sort of far-flung and potentially dangerous escapade. This is particularly true of the Indiana Jones Vagabond Duffle, which is the perfect size for any sort of weekend adventure, even the sort that includes breaking into cursed tombs or rescuing sacred relics from Nazis. Made from a buttery suede, the duffel will only look better the more it endures.
Beyond the limited-edition capsule collection, Métier will also release a small assortment of Indy-approved goods that includes a version of the Vagabond duffel, a messenger bag, a mesh “basket” bag made of salt netting, and a series of leather goods such as luggage tags, notebook covers, and a super-chic water bottle holder, all stamped with a small silhouette of the iconic adventurer. For anyone who loves these movies, this collection provides a warm jolt of nostalgia while also showcasing the impeccable craftsmanship that Métier is famous for. They are the kind of pieces you’ll want to hang on to forever.
