Men’s Jeans for Every Kind of Denim Diehard
From pleated to classic, straight leg to slim, there’s a right jean for everyone out there.
With their clean silhouettes and soft shapes, Hay is the platonic ideal of Danish Design.
I DISCOVERED THE sculptural chair at 6 years old. My parents took me to stay at the Delano South Beach Hotel in Miami, and I was terribly excited to be there. Everyone was stunning, wore high-heeled shoes, and drank cosmopolitans. The lobby of the hotel was somewhere between a museum and a catwalk. Saucer-eyed, I would post up in one particular chair. It was hard yet soft — the fanciest thing I’d ever touched.
What a fine concept —infusing something to sit on with as much elegance, craft, and play as something gallery-worthy and made to admire. I’m drawn to the pared-back design — a kind of minimalism that still feels human. Clean and soft shapes. My dream home would be full of this look. And in one corner: the Chisel Lounge Chair, from Danish design brand Hay’s newest collection.
Founded in 2002, the Hay brand is the platonic ideal of Danish design: uncomplicated, joyful, streamlined, and pragmatic. Their new Chisel Lounge Chair, created in collaboration with Norwegian designer Andreas Bergsaker, is exceedingly friendly, like a man who’s both cute and handsome (Ryan Reynolds? Pedro Pascal?). Its angled legs, made from veneered plywood and solid oak, feature beveled edges — a reference to the shape of a chisel. The chair is deeply ergonomic, with a smooth, curved seat and backrest. It’s grounding yet giving. Available in a variety of colors and upholstery, I love the airiness of the classic wood — in that pale, honey-blond hue. Finely grained, it begs to be touched. Nay, sat on.
