Peter Island

Though it’s one of the largest British Virgin Islands, this nearly 2,000-acre sanctuary is—unlike its better-known neighbors, Tortola and Virgin Gorda—private. Yet its eponymous resort offers the sorts of amenities one would find at much larger properties, including a full-service, 18-slip yacht club; a 10,000-square-foot Ayurvedic spa (which, as of 2015, uses both Natura Bisse and Ingrid Millet products); a dive shop and water-sports center; and several restaurants and bars (one of which hosts a weekly vintner’s dinner). Beach Front Junior Suites and Crow’s Nest Villa are set off the stunning sweep of Deadman’s Beach while the Hawks Nest Villa and Ocean View Rooms overlook the resort’s Mega Yacht Harbor. Rooms start at $450; 800-346-4451;  peterisland.com. —SG
