New Attractions in New York City
The city that never sleeps is awash in innovative architecture and sights to see.
Barclays Center, Brooklyn
The biggest news in Brooklyn is the arrival of this new 18,000-seat arena located above a rail yard where nine subway lines and several major avenues converge. It is a spectacular structure of Cor-Ten steel designed by SHoP Architects (with AECOM), featuring an ambitious public-art program to boot. Jay-Z will christen the new arrival with a concert on September 28; two weeks later, Barbra Streisand will give her first performance in Brooklyn in 50 years. Then the Nets, partly owned by Jay-Z, will become the first professional sports team to play in Brooklyn since the Dodgers left. 620 Atlantic Ave.; 212-359-6387; barclayscenter.com.
