Laphroaig Lore

The famed Islay distillery celebrated its 200th birthday last year, and its latest expression, Lore, makes for an ideal reflection on one lengthy, legendary history. Made using a mix of their liquids that have been aged in ex-Bourbon, virgin European Oak, first-fill Oloroso Sherry butts, and first-fill and refill quarter casks—basically everything the warehouse had to offer—Lore is the drinkable equivalent of the whisky maker’s greatest hits: a liquid time capsule, so to speak. The combination of styles and ages—the oldest of which has been sitting since 1993—results in a smoky, rich, velvety flavor profile, one that Laphroaig itself has deemed the most rich of all their expressions. $125; laphroaig.com.
