Whiskey is for winter. It’s big and brown and goes down with heat, giving off the illusion, at the very least, of warming from within. It’s why so many top-notch bourbons, Scotches, ryes—and everything in between—tend to hit shelves during the colder months.
But with the current whiskey revival that’s been raging since the early aughts, every season brings a new batch of impeccable spirits to choose from. The past few months have debuted particularly singular offerings from stateside craft distilleries and veterans abroad.
Take, for example, the Single Cask Straight Texas Bourbon by Texas distillery Balcones, whose one-off creation took home a number of industry awards and became the state’s very first single-barrel bourbon. Or Glenfiddich, which aged a single malt exclusively in bourbon barrels for the first time in more than a century of distilling. Or Compass Box, a brand that happened upon two mysterious, epically aged whiskeys and blended them to perfection.
No matter their differences, these ten new whiskeys are adding something special to the back bar. But the one thing they do share? Limited releases. Get them while you can.
