Celebrities are just like us… sort of. When it comes to drinking at home during quarantine (responsibly, in moderation of course), they are just as eager as we all are to share how they are wetting their whistles. Actors, musicians, and reality stars, some of whom have their own spirits brands, have been posting videos and photos of themselves making cocktails and enjoying the lush life during this difficult time of sheltering in place. Here are some recent examples that might provide some inspiration, or at least a moment of levity.
Padma Lakshmi: Margarita
When Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi found out New York City schools were canceled for the rest of the year, she did what so many parents felt like doing—she made a stiff drink. Her cocktail of choice was a margarita made with Roca Patron Tequila shaken with some muddled mint, cucumber, spicy chile, and Pellegrino sparkling water. Wait for the punchline at the end of the video, when she chugs what is presumably prop tequila straight from the bottle.
The Rock: “Mamarita”
The Rock made his version of a margarita, which he called the “Mamarita,” this year in honor of all the moms quarantining on Mother’s Day. This was a natural choice for him, given that he recently launched his own tequila brand called Teremana. His was a simple version with a fruity twist—tequila (which he didn’t measure, but hey, he’s The Rock), agave syrup, lime juice, and some blueberry and watermelon, shaken and poured into a glass.
Glenn Howerton: White Wine Spritzer
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Glenn Howerton seems to be keeping his quarantine drinking on the lighter side. He posted a photo of himself drinking a white wine spritzer in late March, which he named Ambrosia. It looked refreshing, but we’ll have to keep checking his Instagram feed to see if he’s made the switch to drinking hard liquor anytime soon.
Elizabeth Banks: Baby’s First Bourbon
The Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks has been enjoying her fair share of cocktails and spirits throughout quarantine, sampling some pretty good bottles along the way. Back in April she posted a picture of an Aperol Paloma, which she made with tequila, grapefruit juice, Aperol, and simple syrup. She has also enjoyed “Baby’s First Bourbon” (it appeared to be just bourbon with a slice of blood orange), a Manhattan made with High West whiskey, and even a shot of Madre Mezcal.
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis: Quarantine Wine
Some celebrities are just enjoying a couple of drinks during the lockdown, while others are actually coming up with new brands. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have launched Quarantine Wine, a wine label from which all proceeds will go to benefit charities that are assisting people throughout the pandemic. The debut wine is a 2018 vintage Pinot Noir that comes from Oregon’s Battle Creek Vineyard.
Katherine Heigl: The Hideaway Wine
What has Kathrine Heigl been up to since her tenure on Grey’s Anatomy? Well, she’s made a few rom-coms, appeared on some TV shows, and has a new Netflix show on the way. And during quarantine, she is keeping a humorous diary of sorts. In one April “entry,” she posted a photo of herself drinking a glass of rose wine from California’s The Hideaway Wine Co. If you trust Heigl’s taste, you can order a bottle for yourself to try online.
Amy Schumer: Tinto De Verano
Comedian Amy Schumer and her husband chef Chris Fischer have a new show on the Food Network called Amy Schumer Learns to Cook, and she’s been posting some recipes on Instagram. One recent post was the Tinto De Verano, a cocktail large for a group to drink (or one very thirsty homebound person). It combines red wine, citrus soda, sweet vermouth, orange, and lemon. Just mix over ice, serve, and sip. If you’re looking for something a bit more classic, she also posted this recipe for an Old Fashioned.
Nick Jonas: Villa One Tequila
If you’re a celebrity stuck at home and have your very own tequila brand, now is as good a time as any to promote it, right? Nick Jonas doesn’t need a jigger to measure his Villa One pour, he just freestyles until it “seems about right,” as he recently posted on Instagram. This ultra premium tequila brand is a partnership between Jonas and John Varvartos, and comes in blanco, reposado, and anejo expressions.
