Where to Drink in London

London nightlife has much more to offer than the traditional pub scene. Here, we recommend everything from Ian Fleming's favorite martini bar to a hip, molecular cocktail lounge where the experimental drinks appear alongside complementary aromas, fogs, and foams.

The Holly Bush

Climb a curving set of steps between garden walls in Hampstead village and you find a hidden cul-de-sac, Holly Mount. The Holly Bush sits in the loop of houses, a former stable block that has been a pub since 1807 and is now a dark, ramshackle warren of rooms, the definitive London pub for a wet and stormy afternoon. The place has a civic and educational history: John Constable, the landscape painter, lectured here; and the pub hosted the first meetings to preserve Hampstead Heath, the great, tree-filled park nearby.
