In addition to seeking out social justice organizations to donate to, we’ve also turned our attention to ensuring conscientious shopping. We have always been interested in buying from small businesses and purchasing from boutiques around the globe. Doing some due diligence on the brands we buy from is what luxury shopping is all about. We want to know where our clothes, home goods, cleaning products, and makeup is coming from. And that means looking into who made it, how, and with what ingredients and materials. Further, being equitable about where we spend our money means making sure our go-to luxury fashion and home goods shops include a great many black-owned businesses.
We want to continue and increase the amount of shopping we do at black-owned businesses. The luxe businesses below all produce well-made goods from black tastemakers who inform our decor choices, sense of style, and what we eat and drink.

Sukie's Candle Co.
These soy candles are hand-poured and made to order in Los Angeles. Sukie’s Candle Co. makes their candles from vegan soy wax infused with essential oils for an “environmentally clean burn with no toxins, additives, dyes or pollutants ever added.” Shop Sukie’s favorite double-wick candles here.
Adjourn Tea House
Tea blending and brewing is an art that Adjourn Tea House has certainly mastered. The loose leaf tea company was founded by avid tea drinker LaTonia, based in Washington, D.C. Shop their signature collection teas, limited edition teas, or beautiful tea accessories.
Maison Noir Wines
Founded by sommelier André Hueston Mack, Maison Noir Wines is a high-concept Oregon shop making wine and luxe t-shirts. And they say “both ends of Maison Noir incorporate a trademark attitude and personal perspective on wine subculture.” Order a case of their “unique and distinctive garage wines,” many of which were originally produced for some of the best restaurants in NYC.
New York City-based fashion brand Cushnie makes luxury occasionwear with smooth silks and distinctive cuts. They have a coveted bridal line and recently debuted their Spring 2020 and Resort 2020 collections.
Pur Home makes household cleaning products that are safe for the earth and for your family. Their home floor wash is a miracle worker, as is their disinfectant spray. Shop their cleaning product bundles (like laundry detergent, multi-surface cleaner, bathroom cleaner, and multi-surface scrub) here.
McBride Sisters Wine Collection
Founded by the McBride sisters, Robin and Andréa, McBride Sisters Wine Collection sells “Premium wines from California and New Zealand made in an Old World style with New World finesse.” Shop their Black Girl Magic wine collection, order a variety case, or join their wine club.
Red Bay Coffee Roasters
Red Bay Coffee Roasters was founded in the Bay Area by artist and food entrepreneur Keba Konte. You can buy their coffee and espresso beans online, as well as high-end coffee drinkware.
Hope for Flowers by Tracy Reese
Tracy Reese’s fashion brand is feminine, creative, and chic. Hope for Flowers specifically incorporates “positive, social and ecological practices” and is “designed for women who are inspired by beauty and also desire to use their power as consumers to be agents for positive change in the world.”
Du Nord Craft Spirits
Black and family-owned Du Nord Craft Spirits is a distillery in Minneapolis. They have incurred damages in recent fires and are still selling spirits online. Buy here or donate to their Go Fund Me.
Los Angeles-based home decor expert Anitra travels the world in search of home goods specifically from the African diaspora. Reflektion Design sells luxurious wooden tableware, bags and accessories (including face masks), pillow covers, baskets, and other home accents.
Royal House of Wraps
Creative, high-fashion head wraps are sold at Los Angeles-based Royal House of Wraps. They are made with beautiful, vibrant fabrics sourced from around the world, and the shop is currently selling face masks, too.
Rayo & Honey
Rayo & Honey specializes in home decor that makes you think. Their minimalist aesthetic and strong messaging make for poignant and beautiful accent pieces in your office or living room.
Mented Cosmetics is designed to make stunning shades for every skin tone. Their makeup is vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, and non-toxic. In addition to their beautiful lipstick (matte, liquid, and more), they have high-quality foundation and make a great brow pencil.
Briogeo Hair Care has a well-deserved cult following thanks to their Don’t Despair, Repair hair mask. Their Don’t Despair, Repair line also has shampoo, conditioner, and hair oil.
Fou-dre is a black and female-owned premium vodka company by Chanel Turner. Turner is the youngest women to own a spirits brand and “the first African American woman to own and operate a Vodka brand.” The smooth, elegant vodka is sold in a distinctive, recycled glass bottle.
Brooklyn-based fashion company Brother Vellies is known for their high-fashion shoes. In addition to statement boots, eclectic mules, and vegetable-tanned leather flats, they release limited edition home goods or fashion staples on occasion, and have a coveted line of purses.
Pear Nova is a cruelty-free, vegan-friendly luxe nail polish brand designed in Chicago. Their shades come in an array of fashionable colors and they integrate “the texture of lux fabrics into subtle hues of lacquer.” Their Dianna Boss shade is perfect for summer, and they also have a line of gel polish.
A favorite of Net-a-Porter and Farfetch.com shoppers, Wales Bonner is a UK-based luxury clothing company. Founded by Grace Wales Bonner, the shop originally specialized in menswear but has now branched out to include a women’s line.
Founded by noted designer Matthew Harris from Montego Bay, Jamaica, Mateo New York got their start in 2009 making men’s jewelry. They eventually branched into women’s jewelry and fashion, and are now sold by the likes of Moda Operandi and Bergdorf Goodman.
Brown Estate, Napa
Family-owned Brown Estate in Napa Valley is an award-winning winery currently led by president Deneen Brown. Try their famed Zinfandels or a case of their new Chaos Theory vintage.
Lauren Napier Beauty
You might recognize the name from Lauren Napier’s popular facial cleaning cloths. These game-changing face cleansing cloths come in three varieties: La Rose, Cleanse, and Flaunt. You can buy five, 15, or 50, or even subscribe for face wipe shipments every six weeks.
