Mara Hoffman has become a reliable and sustainable go-to for fun, functional...

Turtleneck sweaters have a bit of a bad rap in fashion, especially in menswear fashion. Their signature high rolled collar silhouette is sometimes considered as too outdated giving off old-school vibes, and not in a cool way. So for a long time, it seems fashion was staying away from what was once a wardrobe staple, but the time has finally come for a much-needed turtleneck reboot.

And if you’re not convinced of the functionality of the turtleneck, then let Ewan McGregor change your mind. While most people would only reach for a turtleneck to style a pair of jeans, for example, the Scottish actor went in a completely different direction. The actor attended the premiere of his latest movie Doctor Sleep looking absolutely dapper in a double-breasted gray suit styled with a navy turtleneck instead of a shirt. He accessorized the look with a pocket square and a pair of dark brown Oxford shoes.

The reason why we love his outfit so much is that it’s perfect for winter. We are huge believers that, when temperatures drop, you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort (and warmth). A turtleneck sweater made from luxury cashmere or wool can be the perfect styling companion for a suit. It will not only break the habit of pairing your suits with button-downs and introduce a whole new look to your wardrobe but it will also keep you warm.

Now that we (or rather Ewan McGregor) have convinced you to invest in a turtleneck sweater this season, shop these three styles that we love:

Givenchy Floating Bonded Tape Logo Turtleneck

This one is a wardrobe staple—it comes in black and it’s made from wool so you can wear it with absolutely anything this fall and winter. And while it looks completely classic on the front, it features the brand’s logo on the back.

Corneliani Wool Turtleneck Sweater

If you really liked Ewan McGregor’s look, then this wool navy turtleneck sweater is the right one for you. It has a ribbed collar and sleeves for a classic look (just like McGregor’s). Since navy is such a versatile color, you can also pair it with other shades of blue, burgundy, and, of course, black.

Isaia Classic-Fit Merino Wool Turtleneck

Isaia’s super soft merino wool turtleneck sports a classic fit which means it’s perfect to wear under jackets since it’s not too loose-fitting and won’t feel like you’re wearing a bulky sweater underneath.
